Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has apologised to citizens over the recent widespread blackout.
Speaking in Abuja, he admitted that the outages have caused hardship for homes, businesses, and schools, especially during the hot season.
He explained that the crisis was largely due to gas supply issues and ongoing repairs on key pipelines.
Adelabu, however, assured Nigerians that improvements should begin within two weeks as repair works are completed.
He noted that efforts are being made to ensure gas suppliers meet their obligations to power generation companies.
The minister also reaffirmed the government’s plan to boost electricity supply to 6,000 megawatts before the end of 2026.
