Bomb blasts: Shettima arrives Maiduguri for on-the-spot assessment

Vice President Kashim Shettima arrived in Maiduguri on Wednesday to assess the aftermath of recent bomb blasts and offer condolences to victims. The attacks, suspected to be carried out by Boko Haram, killed about 23 people and injured hundreds.

Shettima’s visit was confirmed by Stanley Nkwocha, Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communication, Office of the Vice President. The trip is part of the federal government’s response to the crisis.

At Maiduguri International Airport, Shettima was received by Borno State Deputy Governor Umar Usman Kadafur, Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan, and other top officials and party representatives.

The bombings occurred on Monday at the Monday Market and near the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), shortly after iftar, causing widespread panic in the city.

Shettima, representing President Bola Tinubu, held discussions with local authorities and emergency services to coordinate relief efforts and security measures. He also met with victims’ families to express solidarity and government support.

Authorities urged residents to remain vigilant, cooperate with security forces, and report suspicious activities. The federal government reassured that steps are being taken to prevent further attacks in the region.
