Europe rejects Trump’s call to secure Strait of Hormuz

European leaders have rejected a request by Donald Trump to support efforts to secure the Strait of Hormuz amid rising tensions in the region. The issue was discussed during a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels.

The United States had urged several countries, including the United Kingdom, France, and Japan, to deploy naval forces to protect the key oil route. However, many European nations showed reluctance, citing the risks involved in joining an ongoing conflict.

Germany’s Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said Berlin would not participate in military operations, stressing the need for more transparency from the US. Other officials also questioned the purpose of the mission and whether it aligns with NATO’s role.

Countries like Greece, Italy, and Poland echoed similar concerns, calling for diplomatic engagement instead of military action. European leaders insisted they need clearer plans from Washington before making any commitments regarding the crisis.
