At least 23 people were killed and 146 others injured in multiple explosions that struck Maiduguri, Borno State, on Monday night. The blasts targeted the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital gate, Monday Market, and Post Office areas of the city.
Surajo Abdullahi of NEMA confirmed that 169 victims were evacuated to three hospitals, with 108 at UMTH, 20 at Umaru Shehu Hospital, and 17 at Maiduguri Specialist Hospital. Residents expressed shock, as the city had enjoyed relative peace for several years.
Officials said the EOD and joint security teams were deployed to assess the blasts and ensure public safety. The attacks follow a recent assault on a military location in Ajilari, showing a worrying rise in violence.
Authorities advised residents to remain calm yet vigilant, as emergency responders continue to manage the situation. The latest incidents have reignited fear in a city previously known for periods of calm.
