Eid-El-Fitr: FG Declares Thursday, Friday Public Holidays

The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Thursday, March 19, and Friday, March 20, 2026, as public holidays to celebrate Eid al-Fitr, marking the end of Ramadan. The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

In a statement released through the ministry, Muslims across the country were congratulated for completing the fasting period. The government encouraged them to continue practicing values such as love, peace, tolerance, and sacrifice.

Nigerians were also urged to use the festive season as a time to pray for unity, peace, and progress in the nation. The message highlighted the importance of coming together as one people despite differences.

The minister further advised citizens to celebrate responsibly and show kindness to those in need. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting peaceful coexistence among all Nigerians.
