The Abia State Government has assured residents that no case of Lassa Fever has been recorded in the state despite outbreaks in other parts of Nigeria. Officials say preventive measures are already in place to protect the public.
Speaking after a State Executive Council meeting in Umuahia, the Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, revealed that health authorities have intensified surveillance across all entry points into the state.
According to the government, medical teams and relevant agencies are monitoring border communities closely to stop the disease from spreading into Abia. Residents were encouraged to remain calm and follow public health guidelines.
The state also addressed claims about the Senior Citizens Law signed by Alex Otti, clarifying that it is not meant for cash distribution. Instead, the law focuses on welfare support such as healthcare, nutrition, housing, and general wellbeing for elderly citizens.
