The United Kingdom has suggested that Vladimir Putin may be influencing Iran’s military strategy in the ongoing conflict in the Middle East. UK Defence Secretary John Healey made the claim after drones targeted a Western military base in Erbil, northern Iraq.
British military officials said Iranian forces and their allies are increasingly using drone tactics similar to those deployed by Russia in the war against Ukraine. Reports indicate that Iran has used more than 2,000 Shahed drones across the region since the conflict escalated.
According to Lt Gen Nick Perry, head of joint operations, the drones are now being flown at lower altitudes, making them harder to detect and more effective in striking targets. A UK counter-drone unit reportedly intercepted two drones targeting a Western facility in Erbil where British troops were present.
Meanwhile, Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has vowed retaliation after losing family members in the early stage of the conflict. His comments came amid rising tensions following joint strikes by the United States and Israel.
