Residents in several Abuja communities, including Ushafa, Bwari, and Dutse, are facing prolonged water scarcity, with many going weeks without supply. The shortage has forced residents to rely on alternative and sometimes unsafe water sources.
A Dutse resident, Godswill, revealed that he has been fetching water from a nearby river for nearly a week due to empty taps. Another resident, Dike, expressed frustration over the delay in restoring water despite promises from authorities.
The scarcity is believed to be linked to the Usuma Dam, a major source of water for many areas. Families who connected their homes to the dam, expecting consistent supply, have been disappointed by the worsening situation.
Residents are urging relevant authorities to urgently address the prolonged shortage as the cause remains unclear. Many fear the disruption could impact daily life and health in the affected communities.
