Lagos NULGE members demand suspension of state president amid EFCC probe

Members of the Lagos State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) have called for the immediate suspension of State President Comrade Sunday Sewanu Ogunfowora pending an EFCC investigation into alleged financial misconduct.

In a letter to the union’s national leadership, the members cited Rule 27(ii) of the NULGE constitution, which mandates the suspension of any officer under probe for embezzlement, diversion of funds, or money laundering. Ogunfowora has reportedly been under EFCC scrutiny since December 2025.

The group highlighted that Ogunfowora had previously suspended other officers under the same rule, arguing that not applying it to him now amounts to selective enforcement and could weaken union discipline and public trust.

They demanded the national body act within seven days or risk legal action to enforce the constitution, while copies of the correspondence were forwarded to the Lagos DSS for necessary attention.
