Coroner inquest into de@th of Chimamanda Adichie’s son begins April 14

 coroner’s inquest into the de@th of 21-month-old Nkanu Nnamdi Esege, son of author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and Dr. Ivara Esege, will begin on April 14, 2026, at the Yaba Magistrate Court in Lagos. Magistrate Atinuke Adetunji fixed the date when the matter came up in court on February 25.

The child passed away on January 7, 2026, after receiving treatment at Atlantis Hospital and undergoing medical procedures at Euracare Multi-Specialist Hospital. He had first been admitted for what was described as a mild but worsening illness.

Plans were reportedly underway to transfer him to Johns Hopkins Hospital in the United States before he was referred to Euracare for further diagnostic procedures. Sadly, he d!ed after undergoing those medical steps.

His parents have raised concerns about possible medical negligence and misconduct. Lawyers representing the family, Lagos State government, and the hospitals were present in court, with proceedings set to formally commence in April.
