ADC denounce attack on Peter Obi, others in Benin

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has strongly condemned the reported attack on Peter Obi and other political figures in Benin, Edo State. The incident allegedly occurred shortly after a party event in the state capital. Party members described the development as troubling and dangerous for Nigeria’s democracy.

Yunusa Tanko, national coordinator of the Obidient Movement, said Obi and some leaders were attacked after visiting the residence of John Odigie Oyegun. The gathering followed the formal reception of Olumide Akpata into the ADC. Tanko shared details of the event on social media.

In a separate statement, Bolaji Abdullahi described the attack as a serious setback for democratic values. He linked the situation to a previous warning allegedly issued by Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo concerning Obi’s visits to the state. Abdullahi claimed such rhetoric created tension.

The ADC maintained that intimidation and violence have no place in politics. The party said it would continue its activities peacefully and remain firm in defending opposition rights. Leaders called on Nigerians to reject actions that threaten democratic freedom.
