Suspected political thugs on Tuesday attacked the Edo State secretariat of the Action Democratic Congress (ADC), barely 24 hours after a warning by the state chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Jarret Tenebe. The incident reportedly happened shortly after party leaders received Barrister Olumide Akpata at the venue.
Prominent figures including Peter Obi, Chief John Odigie Oyegun, Senator Roland Owie and Prof. Oserhiemen Osunbor were said to have attended the gathering. A viral video shared online showed damaged vehicles, broken chairs and injured individuals following the attack. Witnesses alleged that the hoodlums arrived masked and armed.
One woman was reportedly shot and taken to hospital, while several others sustained injuries. The attackers were also accused of vandalising property and allegedly moving toward Chief John Odigie Oyegun’s residence after leaving the secretariat. The situation has raised fresh concerns about political tension in the state.
The attack came weeks after a similar incident at the same secretariat. It also followed recent remarks by APC chairman Jarret Tenebe, who had warned the ADC against political activities in Edo State, insisting his comments were advice and not a threat. Authorities are yet to issue a full official statement on the latest incident.
