Benue: Alia had no structure, won because of Akume – Aondoakaa

Former Attorney General of Nigeria, Mike Aondoakaa, has claimed that Benue State Governor, Abel Alia, had no political structure and only won his election due to the support of Senator George Akume. Aondoakaa stated this during an interview, arguing that Alia relied heavily on established political figures rather than grassroots organization.

He emphasized that while Alia had the backing of influential leaders, his campaign lacked coordination, clear strategy, and local party machinery, which are normally essential for winning elections in Benue.

According to Aondoakaa, the governor’s reliance on Akume’s influence was decisive, highlighting that Alia’s personal political network was weak and insufficient to mobilize votes independently. He also noted that political mentorship and endorsements often play a major role in determining election outcomes in the state.

The former AGF urged politicians to build strong structures and engage communities directly, stressing that relying solely on influential endorsements could undermine long-term governance and accountability in Benue State.
