117 repentant terrorists complete rehabilitation programme in Borno

A total of 117 repentant insurgents from Borno State have completed a federal rehabilitation programme under Operation Safe Corridor, marking another step in Nigeria’s deradicalisation efforts. The announcement was made during a stakeholders’ meeting at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre where officials discussed plans for their reintegration into society.

According to military authorities, the participants finished their Disarmament, Rehabilitation and Reintegration process at Mallam Sidi Camp. Coordinators said the development shows stronger cooperation between federal and state governments in handling former fighters and monitoring their return to civilian life.

The programme is also expanding to other regions affected by insecurity. Officials revealed new facilities in the North West and proposed centres in other states, with support from partners such as the International Committee of the Red Cross and the International Organization for Migration. These efforts aim to include counselling, skills training and community reconciliation.

Representing Chief of Defence Staff Olufemi Oluyede, senior officers stressed that rehabilitation programmes complement military operations by helping prevent ex-fighters from returning to violence. Authorities say the initiative remains a key part of Nigeria’s broader security strategy.
