Nigeria’s Kano Police Command has announced strengthened security arrangements across Kano as Muslims begin the Ramadan fast. Authorities say the measures are designed to keep residents safe during prayers, night gatherings, and other religious activities throughout the holy period.
In a statement signed by police spokesperson Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the command said the plan is being implemented under Commissioner Ibrahim Adamu Bakori. The initiative follows directives from Inspector-General Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, emphasizing proactive policing and public cooperation.
Residents were urged to stay alert, especially during evening prayers and crowded events. Police advised worshippers to avoid carrying unnecessary items, obey traffic rules, ensure children are supervised, and promptly report suspicious activity to security agencies.
The command also warned that thuggery, illegal gatherings, and fireworks misuse will not be tolerated. Officials stressed that offenders will face strict legal action, while encouraging the public to support law enforcement efforts to ensure a peaceful and safe fasting season.
