A concerned resident of Kanam Local Government Area, Tarub Salim Dugub, has publicly accused the council chairman, Salihu Ayuba Musa, of neglecting the community during a period of rising insecurity. In an open letter, Dugub claimed the chairman has been living in Jos instead of staying among residents who elected him, arguing that local leadership requires physical presence, especially in times of crisis.
He expressed alarm over what he described as repeated attacks on communities within the council, saying residents feel abandoned while violence persists. According to him, the situation worsened after a recent incident in Garga where suspected bandits reportedly attacked the town, leaving casualties, injuries, and damaged homes. He insisted that the chairman’s absence has contributed to fear and frustration among locals.
In the letter titled “It’s Time to Return to Your People,” Dugub stressed that the chairman’s role as chief security officer of the council requires direct engagement with communities and security agencies. He argued that leadership is best demonstrated through visibility, responsiveness, and practical action, particularly when residents face threats to their lives and property.
He also urged the chairman to return and coordinate with authorities, including Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, to address the situation swiftly. According to him, the people of the area want reassurance that their leaders stand with them. He concluded that restoring confidence will depend on stronger on-ground leadership, collaboration with security operatives, and clear commitment to protecting lives.
