Police arrest suspect for attempted sexual assault on three minors in Niger

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Niger State have arrested a 40-year-old suspect, Jafar Mohammed, also known as Danlami, following allegations that he attempted to assault three young girls in Kontagora Local Government Area. Police spokesperson Wasiu Abiodun confirmed that the suspect was apprehended on February 11, 2026, after community members intervened.

According to police findings, the man allegedly lured the children, aged between six and seven, to an unfinished building under the pretense of offering them sweets. Authorities said one of the girls raised an alarm, attracting neighbours who rushed to the scene and stopped the situation before it escalated. The suspect was immediately detained and handed over to officers for investigation.

Police added that the suspect has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Minna, where further inquiries and possible prosecution are underway. Officials assured residents that the command remains committed to protecting children and prosecuting anyone found guilty of crimes against minors.

In a separate incident, police reported the recovery of a firearm in Mokwa after a resident discovered it while clearing bushes near a school compound. The weapon, described as a rusty submachine gun, is undergoing forensic examination to determine its origin and whether it is linked to any criminal activity.
