The Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission has begun monitoring 31 constituency and executive projects worth about N3.6 billion across the three senatorial districts of Ondo State. The exercise is part of Phase 8 of its Constituency and Executive Projects Tracking programme, aimed at ensuring public projects are properly executed and deliver value to citizens.
Speaking in Akure, team leader Osove Andrew said the inspection covers multiple sectors such as education, healthcare, water supply, agriculture, electrification, and other intervention projects. According to him, the commission’s responsibility is to verify that government-funded projects meet approved standards and are completed according to contract specifications.
He explained that the team plans to visit about 60 project locations across the state. Where contractors fail to meet required standards, they will be directed to return to site and correct the issues or risk sanctions. Officials say the tracking initiative is designed to promote accountability, transparency, and proper use of public funds.
Residents and school administrators in some of the communities visited praised the exercise, noting that regular inspections would push contractors to deliver quality work. Observers from the News Agency of Nigeria reported that inspected projects include solar streetlights, classroom construction, and renovation works, reflecting the wide scope of government interventions currently underway.
