Hillary Clinton has accused President Donald Trump of overseeing what she described as a “cover-up” involving documents related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, according to an interview published by BBC.
Speaking in Berlin ahead of her scheduled congressional testimony, Clinton called for the complete release of all remaining materials tied to the federal investigation into Epstein. “Release the files. They are slow-walking it,” she said, urging transparency and equal accountability.
Last month, the United States Department of Justice released more than three million documents, images and videos connected to its investigation into Epstein, who died in federal custody in 2019 in what authorities ruled a suicide.
Although former President Bill Clinton is referenced multiple times in the released records, no evidence has emerged implicating either of the Clintons in criminal wrongdoing.
Both Hillary and Bill Clinton have been directed to provide closed-door depositions before the House Oversight Committee, which is reviewing Epstein’s associations with prominent figures and examining how information about his crimes was handled. Hillary Clinton stated that she would prefer the proceedings to take place publicly.
“We will appear, but we believe it should be done in public,” she said. “I want it to be fair. I want everyone treated equally.”
Clinton emphasized that she and her husband “have nothing to hide” and reiterated their longstanding support for the full disclosure of all relevant documents.
While the Justice Department maintains that no additional files remain for release, some lawmakers contend that internal communications — including memos and emails — have yet to be made public.
Clinton further alleged that Republicans are attempting to divert attention from Trump, whose name also appears multiple times in the released materials.
“They’re pointing to a shiny object — dragging in the Clintons, even me, despite the fact that I never met him,” she said.
Trump has denied any wrongdoing, stating that being named in investigative files does not equate to criminal culpability.
Responding to Clinton’s assertion that the testimony is politically motivated, Trump told reporters he had been “totally exonerated.”
Bill Clinton has acknowledged traveling on Epstein’s private aircraft in the early 2000s for humanitarian trips associated with the Clinton Foundation but has said he never visited Epstein’s private island.
Hillary Clinton has stated she had no meaningful contact with Epstein, did not travel on his aircraft and never visited his island.
In the BBC interview, Clinton also confirmed that she met Ghislaine Maxwell on several occasions. Maxwell was convicted of conspiring with Epstein to sexually abuse minors.
Hillary Clinton is scheduled to testify before the House Oversight Committee on February 26, with Bill Clinton expected to appear the following day.
