Nigerian youths have actively engaged in the FCT Area Council elections, submitting citizens’ demands to candidates ahead of the polls scheduled for February 21, 2026. The youth groups said the exercise aims to ensure elected officials prioritize the needs of residents in the Federal Capital Territory.
During the event, participants handed over documents highlighting key issues such as improved infrastructure, education, healthcare, youth employment, and security. They urged candidates to incorporate these demands into their campaigns and policies if elected.
The youths emphasized that active civic participation is essential for strengthening democracy, saying that voters must hold candidates accountable after elections. Organizers also encouraged residents to engage meaningfully with political processes and ensure their voices are heard.
Several candidates received the citizens’ submissions positively, promising to address the concerns raised and include actionable plans in their programs. The initiative reflects growing efforts by Nigerian youth to influence governance and promote transparency in the FCT councils.
