The South African Police have brought three suspects before the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court over the alleged kidnapping and killing of Isaac Satlat, a 22-year-old student from Plateau State. Authorities say the victim, who also worked as an e-hailing driver, was reportedly attacked after picking up passengers. His body was later discovered on February 11 along with his stolen vehicle.
According to officials, the suspects — Dikeledi Tears Phela, Gositsiane Machidi, and McClaren Mushwana — appeared briefly in court and were remanded in custody pending further investigation. The prosecution confirmed that they face charges linked to murder and carjacking. The case has been adjourned until February 23, 2026, to allow investigators more time to gather evidence.
A spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority, Mumka Mahanja, stated that the accused chose not to pursue bail during the court session. Authorities also disclosed that while two of the suspects are being held at a police detention facility, the female defendant has been transferred to the Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Centre.
The incident has drawn attention to safety concerns facing ride-hailing drivers, especially those working abroad. Investigators say they are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the crime, while officials emphasize that justice will depend on the outcome of the ongoing legal process and evidence presented in court.
