Immigration Service Allowed 5 Deported Chinese To Re-enter Nigeria

Five Chinese nationals previously deported from Nigeria have reportedly re-entered the country, raising concerns about enforcement and immigration compliance. The men were initially arrested in August 2025 by the Nigeria Immigration Service and the Department of State Services (DSS) for working illegally at Royal Castle Ceramics Company in Ogun State. Despite being repatriated by the Minister of Interior, Mr. Olubunmi Ojo, the five were allowed back into Nigeria in January 2026 without facing prosecution or paying fines.

The Chinese nationals—Zhang Damou, Qian Jin, Tang Pan, Lin Jianfeng, and Guo Zhengheng—had allegedly been employed illegally using Temporary Work Permits and Business Visas, which are not valid for long-term factory operations. Reports also claim the factory violated labour laws, with Nigerian workers underpaid and exposed to unsafe working conditions. Security sources allege that enforcement officers may have bypassed standard procedures, facilitating the nationals’ swift return.

The Ministry of Interior has reportedly launched an investigation into the matter, promising sanctions for officials found culpable. However, the incident has sparked public criticism over alleged selective enforcement and corruption within the immigration system. Citizens are calling for transparency and accountability to restore trust in border control and immigration compliance.

Meanwhile, insiders suggest that senior immigration officials may have interfered with the repatriation process, raising questions about institutional oversight. Observers emphasize that a thorough review is needed to prevent similar breaches and ensure that foreign nationals abide by Nigeria’s laws while protecting the rights and safety of Nigerian workers.
