The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission has begun monitoring projects valued at ₦21.6 billion in Sokoto State as part of its efforts to ensure transparency and accountability in public spending. The move is aimed at verifying that funds released for development projects are used for their intended purposes.
Officials of the commission said the tracking exercise is part of a nationwide initiative designed to check abandoned, poorly executed, or inflated contracts. By physically inspecting sites and reviewing documents, the agency hopes to confirm that contractors deliver according to approved specifications and timelines.
According to sources within the monitoring team, the projects under review cover different sectors, including infrastructure and public services. The commission explained that such oversight is necessary to prevent misuse of government resources and to make sure communities benefit from projects funded with public money.
The ICPC stressed that it will continue to intensify supervision across states to discourage corruption and improve project delivery. Observers believe the exercise could strengthen public trust if it leads to visible results and accountability for any irregularities discovered during the inspection process.
