Electronic transmission: Nigerians won’t be intimidated by Senate – CSO

Civil society organisations (CSOs) have said Nigerians will not be intimidated by the Senate over the push for electronic transmission of election results. The groups insisted that citizens remain determined to demand transparent elections, despite resistance from lawmakers against making electronic result transmission mandatory.

The CSOs noted that electronic transmission from polling units is widely seen as a key reform needed to reduce election manipulation. According to them, allowing results to be uploaded in real time would strengthen public trust in the electoral process and protect the integrity of votes cast by citizens.

They criticised the Senate for delaying or opposing changes to the Electoral Act, arguing that such actions only increase public suspicion. The groups warned that attempts to discourage civic engagement or silence reform advocates would not succeed, as Nigerians are increasingly aware of their democratic rights.

The organisations also called on the National Assembly to listen to the will of the people and prioritise electoral reforms that promote fairness and accountability. They stressed that peaceful advocacy would continue until electronic transmission of results is fully adopted and protected by law.
