DSS arrests man over Benin City attack on Peter Obi, ADC leaders

The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested a 26-year-old man over alleged involvement in threats following the recent attack on Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in Benin City. Obi and other political leaders reportedly escaped harm when gunmen disrupted a meeting.

After the incident, the suspect allegedly posted on social media claiming responsibility and issuing further threats. Security sources say the DSS traced and apprehended him through forensic investigations.

The suspect, identified as a teacher in Rivers State, is currently in custody and is expected to face prosecution. Authorities say the arrest reflects their commitment to investigating credible threats and protecting public figures.

The Benin incident has raised fresh concerns about political security as tensions continue ahead of future elections.
