Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will not adopt zoning or any form of consensus arrangement in its presidential primaries ahead of the next general elections. According to him, the party wants a level playing field where all interested aspirants can freely contest.
Speaking during an interview on Trust TV, El-Rufai explained that the ADC is committed to running open, fair, and transparent primaries without pressure or imposition. He said no aspirant would be forced to withdraw for another, adding that internal democracy remains a core principle of the party.
El-Rufai revealed that the party’s leadership is currently developing its manifesto and policy direction. He added that ADC is also engaging presidential, governorship, and other aspirants to agree on a credible process that would promote unity and fairness before the primaries begin.
The former governor also rejected claims that the ADC lacks grassroots presence. He argued that the party’s influence is growing nationwide and challenged critics to test the party’s popularity at the constituency level without heavy security protection.
