A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe, has reacted strongly to the cancellation of the Monday sit-at-home in the South-East, saying the region has been reclaimed from criminals. According to him, the end of the sit-at-home marks a turning point for peace and normal life in Igboland.
In a post shared on his Facebook page, Igbokwe said the South-East would never again experience such levels of criminal activities in modern times. He stressed that the education and values of the Igbo people should be used for development and the common good, not for actions that harm society.
He also criticised those he described as misguided individuals and fraudsters who allegedly encouraged young people to disrupt public order in places like Onitsha. Igbokwe said such actions only made the region suffer unnecessarily and insisted that the era of fear and intimidation is coming to an end.
His comments followed the announcement by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) cancelling the long-running Monday sit-at-home order. Many residents and business owners across the South-East have welcomed the decision, hoping it will restore economic activities and improve security in the region.
