President Tinubu receives US AFRICOM delegation at Aso Villa

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Sunday received a high-level delegation from the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The visit was led by AFRICOM Commander, General Dagvin R.M. Anderson, as part of ongoing engagements between Nigeria and the United States on security and defence cooperation.

Members of the U.S. delegation included the Charge d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria, Keith Heffern, AFRICOM’s Senior Foreign Policy Adviser, Ambassador Peter Vrooman, and the Command Sergeant Major and Senior Enlisted Leader, Garric M. Banfield. The meeting was described as a courtesy visit aimed at strengthening existing ties.

President Tinubu was accompanied by top Nigerian security and intelligence officials. Those present included the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (Rtd), the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, and the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, among others.

The meeting provided an opportunity for both sides to exchange views on regional security, counter-terrorism efforts, and strategic cooperation. It also highlighted Nigeria’s key role in promoting stability across West Africa and the wider African region through partnerships with international allies.
