At least one person has died and another was injured after unknown assailants attacked two men in Damagum Local Government Area of Yobe State. The incident occurred on February 8 during an attempt by the men, Adamu Joldi Dajjo, 25, and Yuse Buba, 20, to steal two rams from the bush area of Abakire Village. The duo were riding a Kasea motorcycle when they were ambushed.
The attackers, three men dressed in black and armed with dane guns, opened fire as the pair passed through Gununu Village. Joldi was shot in the back and face, while Buba sustained a gunshot injury to his right hand. Joldi was rushed to General Hospital Damagum but was pronounced dead, while Buba was referred to Yobe State University Teaching Hospital, Damaturu for further treatment.
Police recovered one live ram and one slaughtered ram from the scene as exhibits. The motorcycle used by the victims was taken away by the attackers. Efforts to identify and apprehend the assailants are ongoing, and the case is under preliminary investigation.
Joldi’s body has been released to his family for burial according to Islamic rites. Authorities are urging caution in the area and continue to investigate the attack, highlighting the risks herders face in parts of Yobe State due to criminal activities.
