LaLiga: Laporta resigns as Barcelona president

Joan Laporta has resigned as president of Barcelona, taking a temporary step to comply with club rules and prepare for the upcoming elections. The move allows him to run for another term, which will be decided by club members on March 15. Laporta will compete against Víctor Font and three other candidates for the presidency.

The resignation follows Barcelona’s internal procedures designed to ensure a fair and transparent election. While Laporta campaigns for re-election, the daily operations of the club will be handled by a temporary management team.

Rafa Yuste, the sporting vice-president since 2021 and a close associate of Laporta, will lead the interim committee. The committee is tasked with overseeing the club’s activities and maintaining stability until a new president is elected.

Laporta’s decision underscores his desire to continue shaping Barcelona’s future while respecting the club’s electoral process. Supporters and members now await the elections to see whether he will secure another term at the helm of the Spanish football giant.
