The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old woman, Nafisat Lateef, for allegedly poisoning a three-year-old boy, Abdulrasheed, in Odigbo Local Government Area. The incident reportedly followed a dispute between the suspect and the child’s mother, Rofiyat, at their residence in Omifon community.
According to DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the state police spokesperson, Nafisat allegedly forced a liquid substance suspected to be poisonous into the toddler’s mouth on February 5, 2026. The mother quickly reported the case to the police, prompting detectives from the Odigbo Police Division to act swiftly.
The boy was immediately rushed to a hospital, where he is receiving medical treatment after continuous vomiting. Police confirmed that the suspect made useful confessional statements during interrogation, and the liquid substance was recovered from her custody.
The Ondo State Police emphasized that the suspect will be charged to court once the investigation is concluded. Authorities also warned landlords and residents that any act of violence against children or tenants is a serious criminal offense under Nigerian law.
