The North-East Development Commission (NEDC) has presented a ₦244.06 billion budget for 2026, prioritizing infrastructure, humanitarian aid, socio-economic recovery, and institutional strengthening in the region. Mohammed Alkali, NEDC CEO, presented the plan to the Joint Senate and House Committee on Special Duties and NEDC.
Alkali also reviewed the 2025 budget, reporting 100% utilization of the ₦131.84 billion allocated and 59% of the total ₦290.99 billion planned budget. The commission highlighted achievements in regional infrastructure, humanitarian support, and development programs.
Members of the committee praised NEDC’s interventions and urged the commission to expand bursary and scholarship programs. They emphasized strengthening the socio-economic recovery framework to enhance education, employment, and overall development in the North-East.
The 2026 budget aims to sustain development gains, enhance institutional capacity, and continue infrastructure projects while addressing humanitarian and economic challenges in the region.
