Wike-led PDP faction attends INEC meeting as national executives

The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday attended the Independent National Electoral Commission’s quarterly consultative meeting with political parties in Abuja. The group was led by Abdulrahman Mohammed, who appeared as National Chairman, alongside Samuel Anyanwu, listed as National Secretary.

The meeting, held at INEC headquarters, also had the presence of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, as well as leaders of other registered political parties. Footage from the event showed INEC assigning official PDP seats to the Wike-led delegation, with Mohammed seated in the position marked “PDP Chairman” and Anyanwu occupying the seat for “PDP National Secretary.”

This development follows a recent ruling by the Federal High Court in Ibadan, which nullified the PDP National Convention held in November 2025. The court barred the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee from presenting itself as the party’s national leadership, citing disobedience to existing court orders.

The judge ruled that the PDP must operate through a caretaker arrangement until a lawful convention is conducted. With INEC’s recognition at the consultative meeting, the Wike-led faction now appears to have gained official control of the party’s national structure.
