The newly appointed Commissioner of Police in Plateau State, Bassey Ewah, has assured residents that maintaining peace and improving security will be his top priority. Speaking during his first press briefing in Jos, the police chief said he is committed to protecting lives and property across the state.
Ewah made it clear that his leadership would mark a new phase for policing in Plateau, stressing that “it will not be business as usual.” He highlighted the importance of cooperation between security agencies and the public, noting that effective policing requires trust, intelligence sharing and collective effort.
The Commissioner said the police would work closely with community leaders, residents and other security outfits to identify threats early and respond swiftly. He also urged officers under his command to uphold professionalism, discipline and dedication in the discharge of their duties.
Ewah added that his mission is to restore Plateau State’s image as the “Home of Peace and Tourism.” His appointment, announced by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, on February 3, 2026, is part of broader efforts to strengthen security and law enforcement in the state.
