Renowned political economist and public affairs analyst, Professor Pat Utomi, has said that Nigeria’s leaders have deeply disappointed the country and its citizens over the years. He made this statement while speaking on the state of governance and leadership in Nigeria, stressing that poor decisions and lack of accountability have caused lasting pain for millions of Nigerians.
Utomi noted that leadership should be about service, vision, and responsibility, but many in positions of power have failed to live up to these expectations. According to him, the inability of leaders to prioritize the welfare of the people has contributed to rising poverty, insecurity, and loss of trust in public institutions across the country.
He explained that Nigeria is blessed with abundant human and natural resources, yet these advantages have not translated into improved living standards for the majority of citizens. Utomi blamed this gap on weak leadership structures, poor policy implementation, and a political culture that often rewards loyalty over competence.
The former presidential aspirant called on Nigerians to demand better leadership and actively participate in shaping the nation’s future. He stressed that meaningful change would only happen when leaders are held accountable and citizens refuse to accept mediocrity. Utomi added that Nigeria still has the potential to succeed if the right values and leadership principles are embraced.
