2027: Why ADC won’t be taken seriously

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will not be taken seriously ahead of the 2027 general elections unless it presents clear alternatives to the current government’s policies. He made this known during an interview on Sunday Politics, monitored by DAILY POST.

Dogara argued that so far, he has not heard the ADC clearly outline people-focused ideas or policies. According to him, much of what comes from the party appears to be driven by anger and complaints rather than a solid vision for Nigerians. He questioned what specific ideas or direction the party is asking citizens to support.

He stressed that for any opposition to be credible, it must offer better and practical solutions than what is already in place. Without this, Dogara said the ADC’s actions would be seen as political gimmicks that may not gain public trust or support ahead of the elections.

It will be recalled that the ADC was adopted by an opposition coalition in July 2025, bringing together high-profile politicians like Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, David Mark, Rauf Aregbesola, Nasir El-Rufai, and Rotimi Amaechi. While the party has promised to unseat the APC in 2027 over rising poverty and hardship, Dogara insists that strong rhetoric alone is not enough without clear and workable alternatives.
