Peter Obi storms FCT as ADC kicks off campaign ahead council elections

Former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has kicked off campaign activities in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as the African Democratic Party (ADC) begins mobilisation ahead of the upcoming area council elections. Obi led party members and supporters on a tour aimed at engaging residents and traders across key parts of Abuja.

During his visit on Wednesday, Obi stopped at the popular Kugbo Furniture Market, which was recently affected by a fire outbreak. Sharing his thoughts on X, he described the loss as painful, especially at a time when many Nigerians are struggling with poverty and economic hardship. He sympathised with traders and acknowledged the serious impact of the incident on their livelihoods.

The former Anambra State governor assured affected traders that recovery was possible with the right support. He stressed that the incident highlights the urgent need to reform Nigeria’s emergency response systems, calling for well-coordinated and efficient services that can respond quickly to crises and protect lives and businesses.

Obi visited the market alongside Moses Paul, the ADC chairmanship candidate for the Abuja Municipal Area Council election. He said the outreach was part of efforts to strengthen community engagement ahead of the polls, urging citizens to take part actively in the electoral process and work towards a Nigeria where preventable tragedies are reduced through effective institutions.
