Popular activist Aisha Yesufu has described Nigeria as one of the most dangerous countries in the world to work as a medical doctor. She made the statement while reacting to recent reports of attacks, kidnappings, and poor working conditions faced by health workers across the country.
According to Yesufu, doctors in Nigeria are exposed to serious risks, including insecurity, long working hours, and lack of proper protection in hospitals. She said many health workers now live in fear, especially in areas affected by banditry, terrorism, and general violence.
She also linked the unsafe environment to the increasing number of doctors leaving Nigeria for safer countries where their lives and careers are better protected. Yesufu warned that if the situation continues, Nigeria could face a severe shortage of qualified medical professionals.
The activist called on the government to urgently improve security, invest more in the health sector, and protect doctors and other frontline workers. She stressed that saving the lives of healthcare workers is essential for saving the lives of ordinary Nigerians.
