The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) in Kano State has arrested a 20-year-old man for allegedly trying to smuggle Indian hemp into a custodial facility at the Kano High Court. Officers discovered the substance hidden inside a loaf of bread as inmates were being escorted for court hearings.
The suspect, who lives in Tishama Hotoro Quarters, Kano, was apprehended by staff of the Goron Dutse Custodial Centre. The substance was reportedly intended for an inmate during court proceedings. The Controller of Corrections in Kano, Ado Inuwa, directed that the suspect be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.
Inuwa praised the professionalism and vigilance of the officers involved, particularly the Officer-in-Charge of the Goron Dutse Custodial Centre, ACC Kafilu Abdullahi. He emphasized the Service’s commitment to maintaining secure, drug-free custodial environments across the state.
The Controller also called on the public, especially parents and guardians, to guide their wards against criminal activities. He reaffirmed the NCoS mandate to reform, rehabilitate, and reintegrate offenders into society, highlighting ongoing efforts to prevent smuggling and crime within correctional facilities.
