A fire outbreak has destroyed a petrol station in Saki, Oyo State, burning a fuel-laden tanker, a motorcycle and other valuable properties. The incident happened on Wednesday and caused panic in the area as thick smoke and intense flames spread around the station. No loss of life was reported, but the damage has been described as severe.
The Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Hon. Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident and said firefighters responded swiftly after receiving the distress call. On arrival, they found the station already engulfed in flames, including a DAF tanker loaded with 50,000 litres of petrol, a Bajaj motorcycle and several fuel dispensing pumps.
Firefighters worked to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby buildings and vehicles. Their quick action helped reduce the impact of the fire, although the tanker, motorcycle, three fuel pumps and parts of the station were completely destroyed. The cause of the fire has not yet been officially stated.
Authorities have advised fuel station operators and residents to strictly follow safety rules, especially when handling highly flammable products. The state fire service also urged the public to report fire incidents early to allow rapid response and limit damage in future emergencies.
