The Nigeria Police Force has arraigned a man, Israel Onen, before the Federal High Court in Lagos over an alleged visa fraud involving ₦60 million. The police accused him of collecting money from a complainant under the promise of helping to secure Ireland and Schengen visas for clients, a promise that was reportedly never fulfilled.
Prosecutors told the court that the alleged fraud happened between 2024 and 2025 and involved conspiracy and false representation. They claimed that the visas were not delivered and the money was also not returned to the victim, leading to petitions being filed against the suspect by those affected.
When the charges were read in court, Onen pleaded not guilty. While the prosecution asked the court to keep him in custody because of multiple complaints, his lawyer requested bail, arguing that the defendant was ready to face trial and comply with court conditions.
Justice Ibrahim Kala granted bail in the sum of ₦60 million with one surety in the same amount and set strict conditions to ensure compliance. The judge ordered that the defendant would remain in police custody until all bail requirements were met, while the case was adjourned to February 12, 2026, for the trial to begin.
