The Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria (LCCN) has announced that its spiritual leader, Archbishop Musa Filibus, has been elected as the new President of Tarayyar Ekklesiyoyin Kristi a Nigeria (TEKAN). The election took place on January 10, 2026, during TEKAN’s 70th General Assembly held in northern Nigeria.
TEKAN is an umbrella body that brings together several Christian denominations mainly in the northern part of the country. The LCCN headquarters in Numan, Adamawa State, said the choice of Archbishop Filibus reflects confidence in his leadership experience and commitment to unity within the Church.
The church also called on members and partners to pray for the new TEKAN President, asking God to grant him wisdom, strength and guidance as he begins his new responsibilities. Church leaders expressed hope that his tenure would promote peace, cooperation and spiritual growth among member churches.
Archbishop Filibus, born in 1960, has been President of the LCCN since 2017 and previously served as President of the Lutheran World Federation, becoming the second African to lead the global body. His election as TEKAN President adds to his long record of service in both national and international Christian leadership.
