A political analyst, Sumner Sambo, has claimed that several lawmakers who moved to the All Progressives Congress (APC) were promised automatic tickets ahead of the 2027 elections. He made this known during a television interview.

According to Sambo, many of these politicians were encouraged to defect with assurances that they would secure party tickets without going through tough primaries. This promise, he said, played a key role in their decision to switch parties.

However, the situation appears to have changed, as some of the lawmakers are now unsure of their political future. Sambo explained that the promises made earlier may not be fully honoured by the party leadership.

He added that the APC is now directing such lawmakers to work through their state governors. This means that their chances of getting tickets could depend on their relationship with the governors in their states.

Sambo warned that this new condition has created tension among the defectors. Lawmakers who are not politically aligned with their governors may struggle to secure tickets for the next election.

Meanwhile, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said he would look into the matter with party leaders. The development has raised concerns about internal party politics and fairness ahead of the 2027 general elections.
