Police foil attempted theft of Bauchi emirate council vehicle

The Bauchi State Police Command has stopped an attempt to steal a Toyota Hilux vehicle belonging to the Bauchi Emirate Council. The incident happened on January 5, 2026, after a council worker raised an alarm when the vehicle suddenly went missing while parked at a filling station in Bauchi.

The vehicle was on official duty to Ganjuwa Local Government Area to deliver messages from the Emir. The driver had briefly stepped away to buy fuel and use the restroom, and during that short time, a suspect entered the vehicle and drove off without permission.

Police officers on patrol quickly responded to the distress call and began a chase. The vehicle was later tracked and recovered in the Bayan Gari area of the city, where the suspect was also arrested by the police.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, confirmed that the suspect confessed to the crime during questioning. He added that investigations are still ongoing and that the suspect will be taken to court after the inquiry is completed.
