A new Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Umar Nadada, has officially taken over leadership of Police Zone 14 in Katsina State at a time when residents are worried about rising insecurity. He is now the 8th AIG to head the zone and is expected to strengthen crime control and improve public confidence in the police.
The Zone 14 Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Umar Muhammad, confirmed the development in a statement on Tuesday. He said Nadada brings a wealth of experience from years of service in different operational, investigative and administrative roles across Nigeria. His appointment is seen as part of efforts to boost security and promote police reforms in the region.
Nadada is from Rano Local Government Area of Kano State. He holds a degree in Applied Biology from Bayero University, Kano, and a Master’s degree in Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1992 as a Cadet ASP and received professional training at the Nigeria Police Academy in Kaduna.
Security observers believe his background and experience will help improve coordination and response to crime in Katsina and neighbouring states under Zone 14. Residents and community leaders have also expressed hope that the new AIG will take firm steps to reduce banditry, kidnapping and other crimes affecting daily life.
