Yahaya Bello innocent until proven guilty by court – EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has emphasized that Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, remains innocent until proven guilty by a court of law. The anti-graft agency made this statement amid ongoing discussions and allegations circulating in the media regarding his administration.

EFCC spokesperson clarified that investigations are ongoing, and no formal charges have been filed against the governor. The commission urged the public to allow due process to take its course and avoid premature judgments that could compromise the integrity of legal proceedings.

The agency also reiterated its commitment to prosecuting corruption cases without bias, underscoring that all individuals, regardless of political position or influence, are subject to the law. The EFCC called on citizens and media houses to exercise caution while reporting on ongoing inquiries.

Governor Bello, meanwhile, has maintained his stance of cooperation with investigative authorities and stressed the need for transparency in all governance matters. Observers note that the statement from EFCC is aimed at reinforcing the principle of “innocent until proven guilty” in Nigeria’s legal framework.
