Former senator Shehu Sani has warned that Nigerians could face widespread travel restrictions if negative behaviour linked to crime, fraud, and immigration abuse continues to damage the country’s image abroad. He said the actions of a few are slowly shaping how the world views millions of innocent citizens.
According to him, countries are becoming stricter with visas and border controls because of repeated cases involving document fraud, overstaying visas, cybercrime, and other offences traced to some Nigerians overseas. This trend, he noted, is pushing foreign governments to consider tougher entry rules for Nigerians.
Shehu Sani urged young people in particular to avoid shortcuts to wealth and to protect Nigeria’s reputation by acting responsibly at home and abroad. He stressed that national image is built by everyday behaviour, not just by government policies.
He also called on Nigerian authorities to strengthen law enforcement, improve economic opportunities, and invest in value-based education so that fewer citizens are tempted into actions that could harm the country’s standing globally.
