Niger govt approves reopening of schools amid insecurity

The Nigerian government has approved the reopening of schools nationwide, despite ongoing security challenges in various parts of the country. Authorities emphasized that education must continue, while ensuring that measures are in place to protect students and staff.

Officials noted that the decision considers both the importance of learning and the need to maintain safety. They assured parents and guardians that security agencies would be on alert to safeguard schools, especially in areas previously affected by attacks or abductions.

Education stakeholders welcomed the move, urging students, teachers, and school administrators to remain vigilant and follow safety protocols. The government also pledged to support schools with resources and guidance to handle emergencies effectively.

While acknowledging the insecurity concerns, the federal authorities stressed that interruptions in education could have long-term negative effects on children’s development. They called for cooperation from communities, security agencies, and school staff to ensure a safe and productive academic session.
