The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kebbi State has criticised the state government for what it called a slow and weak response to the recent killings in Shanga Local Government Area. The party’s state chairman, Safiyanu Bala, raised the alarm in a New Year message, saying the government’s silence had made residents feel abandoned during a time of growing fear and uncertainty.
Bala warned that insecurity, hunger, and economic hardship are still troubling many communities, and that festive celebrations should not distract leaders from the serious challenges facing the people. He said repeated attacks were reported in Shanga and parts of Yauri Emirate, yet authorities had not taken visible steps to stop the violence or reassure affected residents.
According to him, families in the area are not asking for political favours but simply want safety, justice, and protection from further attacks. He described the situation as alarming and questioned why urgent action had not been taken to prevent more loss of lives and restore peace in the communities.
The ADC chairman also accused the government of shrinking democratic space and worsening hardship through heavy taxation and economic policies that burden ordinary citizens. He urged the Kebbi State Government to act quickly by deploying security, supporting victims, and ensuring that lives and property are protected across Shanga and other vulnerable areas.
