Northern group criticises Gov Lawal over worsening insecurity, rising terror attacks in Zamfara

A northern civil group has criticised Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, over what it described as worsening insecurity and rising terror attacks across the state. The group said residents are living in fear as violent incidents continue to affect communities, farmlands and major roads.

In a statement, the group accused the state government of not doing enough to protect lives and property. It claimed that bandit attacks, kidnappings and killings have increased, forcing many villagers to flee their homes and abandon farming and trading activities.

The group urged Governor Lawal to urgently review the state’s security strategy and work more closely with federal security agencies, traditional rulers and local vigilante groups. It said a stronger and more coordinated response is needed to stop criminal groups from expanding their influence.

The group also called on the federal government to provide additional security support to Zamfara, warning that continued inaction could deepen the humanitarian crisis in the state. It stressed that restoring peace is key to rebuilding trust and economic stability in the region.
